Physical Philosophy of the Creation

At the time of Christ, Greek philosophy had penetrated the entire Mediterranean region. This includes the philosophy of science. The following scriptures refer to all philosophy including man's reasoning on the earth, the heavens and the universe. Although I accept most science in practice, I always bear in mind that a man who reasons about the creation without consideration of God's inspired scripture will eventually leave the observed and present their speculations as science. History shows that applying scientific methods to theories does not always yield an accurate conclusion. For this reason, it is wise to weigh all science against scripture.

18 For the story and message of the cross is sheer absurdity and folly to those who are perishing and on their way to perdition, but to us who are being saved it is the [manifestation of] the power of God. 19 For it is written, I will baffle and render useless and destroy the learning of the learned and the philosophy of the philosophers and the cleverness of the clever and the discernment of the discerning; I will frustrate and nullify [them] and bring [them] to nothing.
1 Cor 1:18-22 . Ref. [Isa 29:14.]

20 Where is the wise man (the philosopher)? Where is the scribe (the scholar)? Where is the investigator (the logician, the debater) of this present time and age? Has not God shown up the nonsense and the folly of this world's wisdom? 21 For when the world with all its earthly wisdom failed to perceive and recognize and know God by means of its own philosophy, God in His wisdom was pleased through the foolishness of preaching [salvation, procured by Christ and to be had through Him], to save those who believed (who clung to and trusted in and relied on Him). 22 For while Jews [demandingly] ask for signs and miracles and Greeks pursue philosophy and wisdom, AMP

The conclusions drawn by men regarding matter have been rolled over many times in the last couple of centuries. 100 years ago, the Niels Bohr model of the atom was introduced and held to be science until late in the last century when "science" concluded that it has a new look.

Although there are many similarities of these two models, there are some major differences and even more importantly, to this day no man has seen an atom. Researchers have seen shadows and behavior that implies the nature of the basic building blocks of matter and further application of these conclusions have produced reasonable results, but no man has seen an atom.

Specifically in quantum mechanics, the Heisenberg uncertainty principle states that there is a fundamental limit on the accuracy with which certain pairs of physical properties of a particle, such as location and momentum, cannot be known simultaneously. In order to measure one property precisely, the less precisely the other can be determined, known or even controlled.

Although there are many similarities of these two models, there are some major differences and even more importantly, to this day no man has seen an atom. Researchers have seen shadows and behavior that implies the nature of the basic building blocks of matter and further application of these conclusions have produced reasonable results, but no man has seen an atom.

In a nutshell, this says that you cannot even look closely at physical processes without altering one or more of its properties.

Pursuing science is good and works well for us in practical applications, but it should always lead us to appreciate the creation in the light of God's inspired word. Science at its limit is an observation of the creation. Although the behavior of light, magnetism and gravity have been quantified, scientist cannot fully explain the composition or the source of these phenomena. I used to believe that with focused study and scientific reason I would come to understand the underpinnings of light, magnetism and gravity.

Renowned physicist and lecturer Richard Feynman once informed his students that his course on quantum electrodynamics would create more questions than it would answer and that he would disprove much of what they had learn about the behavior of light energy. I eventually found the answer in the following scripture. Be careful not to fall into the idea that God is part of the creation, pantheism. Creation came into being at His word and is held together by His power.

16 For it was in Him that all things were created, in heaven and on earth, things seen and things unseen, whether thrones, dominions, rulers, or authorities; all things were created and exist through Him [by His service, intervention] and in and for Him. 17 And He Himself existed before all things, and in Him all things consist (cohere, are held together).
Col 1:16-17 [Prov 8:22-31.] AMP

36 For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. [For all things originate with Him and come from Him; all things live through Him, and all things center in and tend to consummate and to end in Him.] To Him be glory forever! Amen (so be it).
Rom 11:36. AMP

These scriptures plainly state that creation is the power of God, but not God Himself because He existed before the creation and still "is" apart from the creation.

8 He who does not love has not become acquainted with God [does not and never did know Him], for God is love.
1 John 4:8. AMP

God's love for us is the foundation of the creation in its entirety. The creation, everything in the universe, is a subset of God's love. Therefore we must observe the creation with the knowledge of God's love and draw our conclusions accordingly.

The clarity with which we perceive God's love towards us is directly proportional to the clarity with which we perceive the creation. The degree to which we perceive God's forgiveness of our sin is directly proportional to the extent of our freedom, our power and authority within the creation.

"Philosophers say a great deal about what is absolutely necessary for science, and it is always, so far as one can see, rather naive, and probably wrong." Richard Feynman, US educator & physicist (1918 - 1988)
